Navigating the New CORU Requirements for Social Care Workers
CORU Registration 2025
From 1 December 2025, the title “Social Care Worker” becomes a legally protected designation in Ireland. This means only those fully registered with CORU - Ireland’s Health and Social Care Professionals Regulator, will be legally permitted to use the title.
For Social Care professionals and employers alike, understanding these new requirements is essential for career continuity, compliance, and successful recruitment.

Why CORU Registration Matters
- No CORU registration = No placement as a Social Care Worker.
- Employers and recruitment agencies are now obligated to verify a candidate’s registration status.
- Failing to register could lead to suspension, contract termination, or inability to work in the sector.
Whether you're a seasoned professional or a new graduate, knowing your registration pathway and meeting the deadlines is critical.
