Considering a Move to Ireland as a Doctor?

Ireland continues to welcome overseas doctors with open arms—offering competitive salaries, strong career progression, and a high standard of living. Whether you’re a junior doctor or an experienced GP consultant, the Irish healthcare system (particularly the HSE) offers diverse and rewarding career opportunities.

At FRS Recruitment, we specialise in helping international doctors find their ideal roles across Ireland—from major urban centres like Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Cork and to smaller towns in need of essential medical expertise.

Why Work as a Doctor in Ireland?

  • High demand across public (HSE) and private healthcare sectors
  • Opportunities across all levels: NCHDs, registrars, GPs, and consultants
  • Supportive relocation, licensing, and integration process
  • Roles available in hospitals and GP practices nationwide
  • Ireland offers a balanced lifestyle, excellent education, and welcoming communities

A Candidate’s Experience: "Emma Went Above and Beyond"

Here’s what one overseas doctor recently shared about their experience with FRS:

“I’m incredibly grateful to Ms Emma Fenton from FRS Recruitment for her unwavering dedication and support throughout my job placement journey. From the very beginning, Emma was nothing short of phenomenal—professional, approachable, and always re

ady to guide me through every step of the process.

She took the time to explain everything clearly, made each stage smooth and stress-free, and ensured I felt confident and informed at all times. Even after I arrived in Ireland, Emma continued to check in on my well-being and remained compassionate and attentive, making sure I was settling in well and aware of future opportunities.

Her commitment, warmth, and attention to detail are truly commendable. It’s rare to find someone so genuinely invested in your success. Thank you, Emma, for going above and beyond. You’ve made a significant impact on my professional journey!”

This kind of personalised support is what defines the FRS approach—ensuring that international doctors feel confident, valued, and fully prepared from day one.

Step-by-Step: How to Work as a Doctor in Ireland

1. Register with the Irish Medical Council (IMC)

All doctors wishing to practise in Ireland must be registered with the IMC. Depending on your training and qualifications, you’ll either apply for the General, Supervised, Trainee Specialist or Specialist Division. Our team helps simplify this process with one-to-one guidance.

2. Understand the HSE System

Ireland’s public healthcare system is managed by the Health Service Executive (HSE). It operates hospitals and community care services nationwide. We work closely with HSE hospitals and community care centres to secure positions for overseas doctors.

3. Secure a Job Offer

We recruit for:

  • Junior doctors
  • GP and family medicine consultants
  • Emergency medicine and psychiatry roles
  • Specialisms such as paediatrics, internal medicine, and surgery
