Are you an experienced network professional ready to take the lead in supporting one of Ireland’s largest public sector enterprise network environments?
We are seeking a Senior Network Support Engineer / Administrator (Data) to join a major national organisation supporting critical infrastructure across 189 sites nationwide, serving over 7,000 users. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in designing, securing, and optimising a large-scale enterprise network while contributing to strategic initiatives including SD-WAN, SASE, Zero Trust, and cybersecurity compliance.
About the Role
As a senior technical specialist, you will provide advanced expertise across network architecture, implementation, administration, and support. You will work on complex enterprise WAN, LAN, and Wi-Fi infrastructure, ensuring resilient, secure, and high-performing connectivity across a nationwide estate.
This role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, project delivery, and mentoring responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support enterprise WAN, LAN, and wireless networks
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network incidents and outages
- Lead network upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure improvement projects
- Configure and manage routing, switching, VLANs, IP addressing, and wireless systems
- Administer secure network access controls including TACACS+, RADIUS, ACLs, and 802.1X
- Support SD-WAN, SASE, and Zero Trust adoption initiatives
- Maintain DHCP, DNS, IP address management, and topology documentation
- Deliver root cause analysis reports and performance optimisation reviews
- Implement network monitoring and health checks using enterprise tools
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical escalation support
- Contribute to ISO 27001 and NIS2 compliance activities
Required Experience & Skills
We’re looking for a senior-level engineer with strong experience in:
Core Networking:
- Complex enterprise network support and administration
- Routing & switching
- IP addressing and subnetting
- VLANs
- LAN/WAN technologies
- Wireless networking
- Network security
Platforms & Tools:
- HP Comware 7 switches
- Aruba ClearPass (Policy Manager, Guest, Insight, TACACS+, RADIUS, 802.1X)
- Microsoft DHCP and DNS
- HP IMC
- SolarWinds or equivalent monitoring tools
Modern Architecture:
- SD-WAN deployment and support
- SASE and Zero Trust concepts
- VPNs, firewalls, secure remote access
- Cloud-integrated network services
Additional Strengths:
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability
- ITIL-aligned service delivery experience
- Vendor/OEM/ISP coordination experience
- Technical documentation and runbook creation
- Project leadership and migration planning experience
Qualifications
Candidates must hold one of the following (or equivalent):
- NFQ Level 8 qualification in Computer Science
- CCNP
- Aruba Certified ClearPass Professional (ACCP)
Working Pattern
- Full-time contract: 230 days annually
- Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day
- Working hours between 08:00 – 18:00 Irish time
- Hybrid model currently includes minimum 2 onsite days weekly in Kilmainham
- Additional onsite attendance may be required depending on business needs
- Occasional out-of-hours support may be required
