Position: Registered Nurse – Residential Support Service

Location: Kilkenny City

Reporting: Residential Service Manager

Employment Type: Permanent, 39 hours per week

Working Hours: Day shifts scheduled between 8:00am and 8:00pm, including some weekend duties.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team supporting residents within a residential care setting. The role focuses on enabling individuals to live meaningful, independent lives while remaining active participants in their local communities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering nursing care, therapeutic support, and practical assistance tailored to individual resident needs.

  • Collaborating with colleagues and management to ensure service goals are achieved and continuously improved.

  • Encouraging and facilitating resident participation in decisions about their care and daily lives.

  • Implementing safe practices and proactive risk management to promote wellbeing and quality of life.

  • Supporting residents to experience a positive, comfortable, and engaging home environment.


Candidate Profile

Education & Professional Registration

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

  • Registration in Intellectual Disability Nursing (RNID) would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

Experience

  • Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities or complex care needs is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with person-centred care approaches, including low-arousal support strategies, would be beneficial.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of key worker principles and best practices in supporting people with intellectual disabilities.

  • Awareness of relevant legislation and standards, including the Health Act 2007 and HIQA regulations.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities with the capacity to build positive relationships with residents, families, and colleagues.

  • Competence in using basic computer systems.
