Practice Manager – GP Practice

Location: Co. Carlow
Salary: €50,000 – €55,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Practice Manager to join a busy and established GP practice in Tullow, Co. Carlow.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced healthcare professional with a strong background in Irish General Practice who enjoys leading teams, managing day-to-day operations and driving improvements across practice processes.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the practice while maintaining high standards of patient care, compliance and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operational management of the GP practice.
  • Lead, support and develop the reception and administrative teams.
  • Manage practice policies, procedures and operational processes.
  • Oversee financial administration, including invoicing, banking, income reconciliation and expenditure monitoring.
  • Take responsibility for the accurate preparation, submission and reconciliation of PCRS claims and returns.
  • Ensure the practice remains compliant with relevant HSE, PCRS, GDPR, HIQA and employment legislation requirements.
  • Work closely with GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure an excellent patient experience.
  • Manage appointment systems, patient flow and practice capacity.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management and staff planning.
  • Manage suppliers, stock levels, equipment and facilities.
  • Prepare operational and financial reports for senior management.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process and service improvement.
  • Support the introduction of new services and digital healthcare solutions.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and information governance standards are maintained at all times.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 3 years' experience as a Practice Manager within an Irish GP practice.
  • At least 5 years' experience working within General Practice in Ireland.
  • Strong practical knowledge of PCRS, including claims submission, validation, reconciliation and troubleshooting.
  • Extensive experience using GP practice management systems, ideally Socrates.
  • Strong understanding of Irish General Practice operations, workflows and HSE requirements.
  • Previous experience managing budgets and financial administration.
  • Proven experience leading and developing administrative/reception teams.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of GDPR and patient confidentiality.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and operate effectively in a busy healthcare environment.

Desirable

  • Qualification in Healthcare Management, Business Management or a related discipline.
  • Experience implementing operational improvements or digital healthcare solutions.
  • Experience in HR administration, recruitment and employee performance management.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement within primary care.
  • Experience supporting practice growth and service development.
