Plumber – Healthcare Facilities Maintenance

FRS Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of a leading healthcare client for an experienced Plumber to join the Maintenance Department in Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified plumber with experience in industrial, commercial, or healthcare environments to join a highly skilled maintenance team responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of critical building services and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out reactive, planned, and preventative maintenance on mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Maintain and repair domestic hot and cold water services, heating systems, sanitary systems, gas distribution systems, HVAC equipment, boilers, chillers, and associated plant.
• Support the operation and monitoring of Building Management Systems (BMS).
• Complete routine inspections, statutory checks, and maintenance records.
• Assist with minor mechanical installations and upgrades.
• Liaise with contractors, hospital departments, and maintenance colleagues to ensure timely completion of works.
• Participate in on-call and emergency call-out arrangements as required.
• Ensure all works are completed in compliance with Health & Safety legislation, infection control standards, and relevant industry regulations.

Requirements

Essential

• QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Plumbing (or equivalent recognised qualification), including:
  • National Craft Certificate (FETAC), or
  • Senior Trade Certificate, or
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Technical/Trade Qualification.
• Strong plumbing and mechanical maintenance experience within industrial, commercial, manufacturing, healthcare, or similar environments.
• Full Category B driving licence.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

• Experience working within healthcare or large-scale facilities environments.
• Knowledge of:
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • HVAC and ventilation systems
  • Steam systems
  • Medical gas systems
  • Water hygiene and Legionella control requirements
  • Pipe welding, fabrication, and mechanical plant maintenance
• Safe Pass certification (or willingness to obtain).
