On behalf of my public sector client, based in Oranmore Co. Galway, I am recruiting for a temporary Marketing, Communications and Events Officer.

Contract length: 4 months with potential to extend

Hours: 37.5 per week; Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:30

Candidates must drive with own car as there are no public transport links between the office and Galway City/Oranmore town.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the organisation and delivery of conferences, events, outreach initiatives and other public-facing activities.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of communications and marketing campaigns.
  • Create, edit and proof a range of communications materials, including press releases, website content, articles, event information, promotional materials and digital communications.
  • Coordinate with colleagues, stakeholders and external creative suppliers to develop photography, video and graphic design.
  • Track relevant media coverage and social media engagement, providing support with campaign evaluation, event reporting and performance analysis.
  • Keep communications resources, databases, event information and digital content libraries accurate, organised and up to date.
  • Provide general administrative and coordination support to the Communications Team and undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • A relevant third-level qualification in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Event Management or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years' relevant professional experience in communications, marketing, events or a similar role.
  • Experience contributing to the organisation of events, communications campaigns, public engagement initiatives or stakeholder activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to produce concise, accurate and engaging content for different audiences.
  • Strong planning, organisational and coordination abilities, including the capacity to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • The ability to build positive working relationships and contribute effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, while also demonstrating initiative and independence.

Desirable Criteria

The following experience or skills would be considered an advantage:

  • Social media scheduling, management and analytics platforms.
  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS).
  • Competence in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or comparable graphic design software.
  • Previous experience within a research, scientific, environmental, public sector or other technical organisation.
  • Experience creating or coordinating photography, video and other multimedia content.
  • An understanding of accessibility standards and good practice in digital communications.
