Health & Safety Officer (Site-Based)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a dynamic site-based team. This role is responsible for managing and monitoring health, safety, and environmental compliance on site, ensuring all operations and subcontractors adhere to legislative, client, and company safety standards.

This position plays a key role in promoting a proactive safety culture and driving continuous improvement in site safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day health & safety activities on site, including subcontractors
  • Ensure all safe operating procedures, rules, and regulations are effectively implemented, reviewed, and communicated
  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings
  • Attend daily, weekly, and planning meetings to support safe project delivery
  • Prepare, review, and update Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Review and approve subcontractor RAMS and Safe Plans of Action (SPAs)
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and site walks
  • Investigate near misses, incidents, and accidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
  • Maintain safety records, plant registers, and statutory certification documentation
  • Ensure plant and equipment are compliant, inspected, and fully certified
  • Produce weekly and monthly safety reports and KPI performance data
  • Monitor changes in legislation and assess impact on operations
  • Collaborate with central safety teams to drive continuous improvement
  • Proactively intervene where unsafe acts or conditions are identified

About You

  • Third-level qualification in Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within construction, engineering, or manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation and industry standards
  • Proven experience in site audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong reporting and documentation capabilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Desirable

  • Experience in structural steel or heavy engineering environments
  • Relevant safety training certifications such as Manual Handling, Working at Heights, or Abrasive Wheels
