A leading manufacturing organisation in based in Co. Galway are seeking a Health and Safety Officer to join their team.

The Role
The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing and continuously improving health and safety practices across the group. Based at the company’s headquarters in Galway, the role involves regular travel to other sites as required. The position plays a key role in promoting a proactive safety culture while ensuring all legislative and regulatory obligations are met.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, implementing and maintaining the Group Environmental, Health & Safety management system
- Ensuring compliance with EHS legislation across Ireland and UK sites, providing expert advice and guidance
- Developing and reviewing health and safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work
- Coordinating risk assessments, inspections and internal audits
- Managing contractor and subcontractor safety compliance
- Leading accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Overseeing chemical safety and hazardous waste handling and disposal
- Ensuring compliance of lifting equipment and safety-critical assets
- Collating, analysing and reporting EHS data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Providing health and safety input into tender and project documentation
Requirements
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:
- A Level 7 degree or higher in Occupational Safety and Health or a related discipline
- At least three years’ experience in a similar health and safety role (desirable but not essential)
- Strong working knowledge of EHS legislation and best practice
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- High levels of organisation, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workload effectively
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with a focus on continuous improvement
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant health and safety systems
Additional certifications such as Manual Handling Instructor or Occupational First Aid are advantageous.
