Our client is seeking a Grid Operations Engineer to join their team in Kerry. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced wind energy professional to develop their expertise across MV/HV electrical systems, grid operations, switching operations and SCADA, with a clear pathway towards becoming a Switching Control Engineer for Ireland and the UK.
What you will be doing:
- Authorising, supervising and carrying out MV/HV switching operations.
- Supporting compliance with Irish legislation and procedures relating to HV electrical works.
- Coordinating materials and labour for repairs and maintenance of MV/HV equipment.
- Providing first-level technical support for SCADA monitoring and fault resolution.
- Supporting SCADA installations during new projects and site refits.
- Assisting technicians with fault finding, testing, breakdowns and technical issues on site.
- Ensuring MV/HV and associated LV equipment is inspected and maintained in line with legislation and company procedures.
- Liaising with site owners, operators, technicians and customers as required.
- Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, reports and records.
- Supporting technical and software updates across operational systems.
- Following training and supervised experience, progressing into Switching Control Engineer responsibilities for Ireland and the UK, covering existing sites and first energisations.
- Participating in a weekend on-call rota as required.
- Travelling nationwide for training and technical support, with occasional international travel for training and workshops.
What we are looking for:
- Electrical Trade Qualification or Electrical Engineering Degree is essential.
- Minimum 4 years' experience within the wind turbine industry is essential.
- Experience with SCADA monitoring and fault resolution is highly advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, with MV/HV experience highly desirable.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving ability.
- Strong IT skills and the ability to work with technical software and databases.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Flexible approach to work, including participation in weekend on-call duties.
- Willingness to travel nationwide and internationally when required.
- Commitment to progressing towards Authorised Engineer (AE) status within 6 months where required.
