About the Nursing Home
The Nursing Home is a purpose-built, 30-bed facility designed specifically to meet the needs of elderly residents. We are currently inviting applications for the position of Director of Nursing.
The Role
The Director of Nursing will have overall responsibility for the clinical, operational, and administrative management of the Nursing Home, ensuring the highest standards of care for all residents.
Key Responsibilities
Quality of Care

Ensure the delivery of high-quality nursing and social care tailored to the individual needs of each resident.

Implement and maintain the Company’s Quality of Care System.

Ensure all clinical practices comply with relevant regulations and standards.
-
Monitor clinical practice through individualised care plans.
-
Conduct internal audits and ensure appropriate follow-up actions.
-
Oversee staff induction, ongoing training, and professional development.
-
Encourage innovative and best practice approaches to care.
-
Ensure full compliance with Company policies and HIQA standards, procedures, and guidelines.
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
-
Maintain and monitor administrative procedures in the absence of the Administrator.

Demonstrate an understanding of residents’ fee income, funding sources, fee arrears, personal allowances, and financial records.

Manage the Community Unit’s budget effectively.
-
Ensure compliance with legislative requirements relating to the financial affairs of residents, including those with mental impairment.
General Management
-
Facilitate regular communication meetings with all clinical staff.

Build and maintain strong relationships with external community agencies, promoting community involvement within the Home.

Support residents in attending local community events and activities.
-
Liaise with the Marketing team to enhance the Home’s profile within the local community.

Monitor and manage all complaints, ensuring each is fully documented, investigated, and resolved.
Environment and Safety
-
Implement the Company Health and Safety Policy to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents, staff, and visitors.

Ensure regular fire safety training and evacuation drills are conducted.
-
Maintain high standards in catering services in line with HACCP requirements.

Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the Home are consistently maintained.

Oversee the implementation of a preventative maintenance programme.
Human Resources
-
Participate in the recruitment, selection, and interviewing of staff.

Conduct regular training needs analyses.
-
Ensure all HR practices comply with current employment legislation.
-
Verify that all registered nurses are listed on the live NMBI Register.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
-
Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience within the last 6 years in the care of older persons.

Post-registration qualification in management, healthcare, or a related discipline.

At least 3 years’ experience in a management role within the health or social care sector.

Active registration on the appropriate division of the NMBI live register.

Demonstrated experience in healthcare clinical management.

Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.

Excellent decision-making abilities with a results-driven approach.

Good understanding of financial management.
-
Self-motivated with the ability to motivate and lead others.
-
Ability to work independently and foster a positive team environment.
-
Flexible and adaptable to meet the evolving needs of the organisation.
