An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Engineer to join a growing engineering and manufacturing environment. This role offers the chance to manage designs from concept through to production, while providing technical leadership and contributing to high‑quality engineering outcomes.
The successful candidate will play a key role across the full project lifecycle, working closely with production, sales, and customers to deliver robust, well‑defined engineering solutions.
The Role;
The Design Engineer will manage projects from initial specification and costing through design, review, release, and production support. The role requires a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead by example while supporting other engineers and the wider factory team.
Key Responsibilities;
- Manage the full project lifecycle including specification, costing, design, review, release, and production support
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring support to other engineers as required
- Set high standards in work quality, accuracy, and presentation across engineering outputs
- Design sheet metal parts, assemblies, and drawings using Creo Parametric, including model‑based definition and advanced assembly structures
- Maintain up‑to‑date Creo knowledge through ongoing engagement with eLearning and development tools
- Manage the design release process, ensuring products are fully defined, checked, and supported by accurate Bills of Materials prior to production release
- Specify parts and materials from suppliers and relay relevant technical information to the Purchasing function
- Lead design projects through to production, including prototype builds and ongoing production support
- Provide complete assembly documentation, instructions, and design files following prototype builds
- Maintain a high level of communication and customer service with key accounts, attending customer meetings when required
- Ensure a strong focus on product quality, delivering designs in line with customer specifications and internal quality standards
- Track and report project progress to the Engineering Manager and participate in internal and customer design review meetings
- Collaborate with the Sales team, providing technical documentation and accurate costings to support commercial activities
- Support Lean principles and contribute to engineering KPIs such as BOM accuracy, cost accuracy, and on‑time design release
- Act as a role model for engineering best practice, continuous improvement, and safety‑focused behaviours
Skills & Experience;
- Proven experience in a mechanical or sheet metal design role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong proficiency in Creo Parametric and model‑based definition
- Experience managing designs through to production and supporting prototype builds
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage customers and cross‑functional teams
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Commercial awareness, including experience supporting costings and technical sales documentation
- Experience working within Lean or continuous improvement frameworks is advantageous
