We're seeking a highly skilled Data Engineering Team Lead to provide both technical and people leadership within a growing data and analytics function.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of talented Data Engineers while driving the development of scalable, secure and high-performing data solutions that enable advanced analytics and business intelligence across a global organisation.

Working closely with Data Science, Analytics and Visualisation teams, you'll play a key role in defining engineering standards, evolving a modern cloud-based data platform, and delivering trusted, high-quality data that supports strategic decision-making.

The Role

As Data Engineering Team Lead, you'll be responsible for leading the Data Engineering function, overseeing data platform architecture, guiding technical delivery and mentoring a high-performing engineering team.

You'll combine hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership, helping to establish best practices, governance frameworks and reusable engineering solutions that support the organisation's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of Data Engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical guidance on engineering standards, methodologies, tools and delivery practices.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching to support professional development and career growth.

Data Platform & Architecture

  • Provide strategic oversight of a modern cloud-based data platform, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure and resilient.
  • Define and drive data integration strategies that support evolving business and analytics requirements.
  • Provide architectural leadership across projects, promoting reusable, maintainable and future-proof solutions.
  • Contribute to architecture governance and technical decision-making across the wider technology function.

Data Engineering & Integration

  • Lead the onboarding of new data sources and integration of enterprise data assets.
  • Design and oversee logical and physical data models supporting enterprise data warehouse solutions.
  • Drive the development of robust ETL processes, data pipelines and integration frameworks.
  • Establish reusable engineering patterns that improve consistency, efficiency and governance.

Governance & Operational Excellence

  • Implement and enhance data governance and control frameworks that support data quality, operational visibility and risk management.
  • Ensure recurring data processes are effectively monitored, managed and optimised.
  • Support data security, compliance and governance initiatives.
  • Champion best practices in metadata management, data lineage and technical documentation.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with Data Science, Analytics, Visualisation and wider technology teams to deliver high-quality data solutions.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Build strong relationships with technical teams, senior stakeholders and third-party vendors.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of architecture documentation, data flow diagrams, data dictionaries and technical design artefacts.

About You

Essential Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in Data Engineering, ETL development, systems integration and data warehousing.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams and driving engineering best practices.
  • Strong expertise in:
    • SQL
    • Data Modelling
    • Data Warehousing
    • ETL Design and Development
  • Experience working with Microsoft Fabric or other enterprise-scale cloud data platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data management principles, including:
    • Data Quality
    • Metadata Management
    • Master Data Management
    • Data Cleansing and Standardisation
  • Programming experience in one or more of the following:
    • Python
    • Java
    • Scala
    • R
  • Good understanding of Business Intelligence platforms and how enterprise data supports analytics and reporting.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within Financial Services or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience working in large-scale enterprise data and analytics environments.
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture and data governance frameworks.
