J ob Title: Commercial Ruminant Nutritionist – Ruminant Divisions
Territory: Field-based | Northern Ireland NE (Londonderry/Derry, Antrim, Down)
Reports to: Retail Director
Salary range: £45,000 – £55,000 base salary + performance bonus + company car
Our client is seeking a committed and knowledgeable Business Development Specialist to join our growing team, with responsibility for supporting farmers across the North East of Ireland.
This is not a typical sales role. We are looking for someone who can act as a trusted on-farm advisor - building relationships, providing tailored nutritional support, and helping farmers improve herd performance and long-term sustainability.
Your focus will be the ruminant sector (beef and dairy), working directly with progressive farmers and supported by a wider technical and commercial team. This role would suit someone with a background in animal nutrition, agri-business, or on-farm consultancy who is looking for a meaningful and independent role with long-term growth potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-farm ruminant nutritional support by developing customised feeding programmes, monitoring animal performance, and conducting follow-ups. Full training in the company’s nutritional approach, formulation software, and tools will be provided.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with farmers through trust, consistency, and technical credibility.
- Understand each farm’s goals and challenges, and clearly communicate how our products and services can support them - focusing on impact and alignment rather than “upselling.”
- Actively promote our client's brand within your territory, including introducing potential commercial clients to the broader team and supporting marketing and business development initiatives.
- Participate in and help deliver regional events such as farm walks, discussion groups, knowledge days, and industry forums.
- Collaborate with internal teams (technical, accounts, logistics, and commercial) to ensure excellent service delivery.
What We Offer
- Base salary: £45,000 – £55,000 (depending on experience)
- Performance-based bonus starting at 10%
- Fully expensed company car, travel, phone, and laptop
- 20 days paid annual leave (plus public holidays)
- Structured onboarding programme
- Dedicated internal support contact to assist you during your first year
- Opportunities for technical upskilling and professional development
- Career progression pathway to senior roles, including potential for regional or team management
What We Are Looking For:
- Qualification in agriculture, animal nutrition, agri-business or a related field.
- 3+ years’ experience in on-farm advisory or technical support within the ruminant sector.
- A deep understanding of ruminant production systems (dairy and/or beef), with the ability to communicate clearly and credibly with farmers
- A self-starter with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Willingness to travel daily across the region and attend relevant events as needed.
- Full, clean driving licence.
