Commercial Manager – Structural Steel

My client, a leading Structural Steel Company based in Kildare, is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to take overall responsibility for the commercial function across a portfolio of structural steel projects.
This is a senior leadership position, reporting directly to the Managing Director with responsibility for overseeing and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors and Estimators.
The successful candidate will play a key role in driving commercial performance, project profitability, cost control and contractual compliance, while working closely with senior management, clients, suppliers and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all commercial activities across multiple structural steel projects.
- Manage, mentor and provide commercial leadership to a team of Quantity Surveyors and Estimators.
- Oversee estimating, tendering and bid management processes.
- Manage project budgets, cash flow and financial reporting.
- Negotiate contracts with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Review and manage variations, claims and final accounts.
- Monitor project profitability, commercial risks and opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company policies.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
- Report commercial performance and key project metrics to senior management.
- Drive consistency and best practice across the commercial and estimating functions.
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Extensive commercial experience within structural steel, steel fabrication or heavy construction.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Previous experience leading and developing QS and estimating teams.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen with a clear understanding of project profitability.
- Excellent contract negotiation and contract management skills.
- Strong knowledge of variations, claims, valuations and final accounts.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive, commercially minded approach with the ability to identify risks and opportunities.
