Overview
The Clinical Nurse Manager III (Out of Hours) provides professional and clinical leadership during non-core hours, reporting to the Senior Nursing Management Team. This role carries site management responsibility across a seven-day service and includes responsibility for designated clinical areas as required. Night duty forms part of the role.
The post holder oversees the effective management of staffing, resources, and service delivery while promoting high standards of patient care, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration. They will also provide cover in the absence of the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) and report directly to the Director of Nursing.
This is a key leadership position responsible for service planning, quality improvement, resource management, and ensuring the delivery of safe, evidence-based nursing care.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Provide operational leadership and coordinate clinical services during out-of-hours periods.
- Support, guide, and mentor nursing staff while promoting teamwork and effective communication.
- Manage staffing and resources to ensure safe, efficient service delivery.
- Contribute to strategic planning, service development, and budget management.
- Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and clinical governance standards.
- Provide hospital management support outside of normal working hours when required.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Deliver professional and clinical leadership across assigned areas.
- Ensure nursing care is delivered in accordance with NMBI standards, national guidelines, local policies, and current legislation.
- Monitor and evaluate clinical standards using an evidence-based approach.
- Coordinate care planning with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with patients, families, consultants, and healthcare professionals.
- Promote dignity, respect, and patient-centred care at all times.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and support the implementation of best practice across all services.
- Participate in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement activities where appropriate.
Education & Staff Development
- Promote continuous professional development within the nursing team.
- Support induction, training, supervision, and performance management of nursing staff.
- Contribute to the education of student nurses and facilitate ongoing learning opportunities.
- Keep up to date with developments in nursing practice, leadership, and healthcare management.
Communication
- Build and maintain effective working relationships across all departments.
- Demonstrate strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Foster a professional, respectful workplace in line with organisational policies and GDPR requirements.
Clinical Governance, Quality & Risk
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, infection prevention, and clinical governance standards.
- Manage incidents, near misses, and risk reporting processes appropriately.
- Work closely with the Clinical Risk Manager and senior leadership team to support continuous quality improvement.
- Maintain knowledge of HIQA standards and other relevant healthcare accreditation frameworks.
Requirements
- Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Minimum of seven years' post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting.
- At least two years' experience at Clinical Nurse Manager II level.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification (Higher Diploma or Postgraduate qualification), or willingness to undertake one.
- ACLS certification or willingness to complete within an agreed timeframe.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership, quality improvement, risk management, and clinical audit.

Salary: €71,184.87 – €80,390.87 per annum (based on a 37-hour week).
