Overall Purpose of the Role
To provide high-quality, patient-centred care within the Emergency Department while supporting operational management, staff leadership, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary coordination. The Clinical Nurse Manager 3 will oversee clinical standards, staff management, service development, and strategic initiatives to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Professional Responsibilities
• Lead and oversee the delivery of nursing care within the Emergency Department.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure patients receive safe, efficient, and high-quality care.
• Support the development and implementation of nursing strategies within the department.
• Promote continuous improvement in nursing practice, staff education, and service delivery.
• Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and relevant stakeholders.
• Develop and monitor quality assurance and clinical effectiveness initiatives.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix within the department.
• Maintain compliance with NMBI standards and professional guidelines.
Operational Management
• Support investigations and responses to patient complaints in line with organisational procedures.
• Coordinate and implement operational service requirements.
• Organise departmental meetings and support service coordination across departments.
• Work collaboratively with internal and external healthcare stakeholders to support patient care pathways.
• Assist with workload prioritisation, delegation, and service planning.
Leadership
• Provide strong clinical and operational leadership to nursing and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support organisational objectives through effective decision-making and collaboration.
• Encourage teamwork, accountability, and professional development among staff.
Performance Monitoring
• Support the implementation and monitoring of service plans and quality improvement initiatives.
• Monitor staffing resources and operational efficiency within the department.
• Participate in relevant meetings and maintain strong collaboration with nursing management teams.
Human Resource Management
• Participate in recruitment, onboarding, appraisal, and development of nursing and allied health staff.
• Support induction, competency assessment, and ongoing education initiatives.
• Promote a positive working culture and address performance or disciplinary matters where required.
• Assist with roster management, annual leave planning, and absence management.
Service Development & Quality Improvement
• Contribute to service planning, expansion, and improvement initiatives within the Emergency Department.
• Support quality audits, KPI monitoring, and implementation of clinical standards.
• Work closely with clinical and non-clinical teams to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
• Build and maintain relationships with GPs, hospitals, and external healthcare providers.
Person Specification
Qualifications
• Registered General Nurse with active NMBI registration.
• Relevant post-registration qualification in Emergency Nursing.
• Recognised management qualification desirable.
Experience
• Minimum 7 years’ acute Emergency Department experience within the last 7–10 years.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior nursing role.
• Proven experience in change management and service development.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
