Overview of Role
The CNM II plays a key role in planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the theatre department. This role leads the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across multiple theatres, ensuring efficient service provision and clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Deliver and oversee patient care to the highest professional standards using an evidence-based approach
- Provide strong clinical leadership and support to nursing teams
- Coordinate, plan, implement, and evaluate care within the designated area
- Ensure all care aligns with NMBI guidelines and hospital policies
- Monitor and evaluate care quality using established systems and audits
- Promote effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
Service & Team Management
- Supervise, allocate, and support nursing and support staff to ensure optimal care delivery
- Foster teamwork, communication, and a positive working environment
- Manage resources effectively and support service development
- Lead practice development initiatives and implement change
- Contribute to and uphold policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives
- Support senior nursing management and deputise when required
Quality, Safety & Governance
- Actively promote a culture of quality and patient safety
- Participate in audits, incident reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and attend mandatory training
- Maintain accurate clinical and administrative records
- Uphold strict information governance and confidentiality standards
General Duties
- Work flexibly across clinical areas as required
- Support audit, data collection, and coordination with relevant departments (e.g. CSSD)
- Adhere to organisational values and professional standards
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Registered in the General Division of the NMBI register
- Minimum 5 years’ theatre experience in an acute setting
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Desirable:
- Management experience in a theatre setting
- Post-registration qualification in Peri-Operative Care
- Management training and experience in change management
