Clinical Facilitator – Cath Lab

Overall Purpose of the Role

The Clinical Facilitator is responsible for supporting excellence in patient care through the development, education, and ongoing professional growth of nursing and healthcare assistant staff within Cardiology Services and the Cath Lab. The role promotes high standards of clinical practice, evidence-based care, and continuous quality improvement while fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and professional development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the hospital’s commitment to delivering exceptional patient-centred care founded on quality, respect, compassion, and professionalism.
  • Enhancing patient outcomes through the assessment of nursing practice standards and the planning, delivery, and evaluation of educational and development programmes.
  • Promoting continuous practice development through effective collaboration, networking, mentoring, and relationship-building.
  • Providing educational and clinical support to nursing staff working within the Cardiology Ward and Cath Lab.
  • Coordinating and managing current educational, orientation, and competency-based training programmes.
  • Supporting Registered Nurses and Healthcare Assistants in developing the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to deliver safe and effective care.
  • Facilitating staff orientation, induction, probation, and competency assessment programmes in partnership with clinical managers, the Assistant Director of Nursing, and the Education Department.
  • Delivering and coordinating training in emergency response procedures, including Code Blue preparation and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) readiness.
  • Providing direct clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to staff undertaking the Cath Lab Training Programme.
  • Coordinating ongoing professional development initiatives and educational activities.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary meetings, committees, and projects that support service development and quality improvement.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of systems that enhance education, clinical practice, audit processes, and service improvement.
  • Maintaining accurate records in accordance with professional, legal, and organisational requirements.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and review of clinical policies, protocols, guidelines, and standards of care.
  • Ensuring compliance with professional, ethical, legislative, and regulatory requirements, including patient confidentiality, health and safety, and data protection obligations.
  • Maintaining a visible clinical presence to support staff development, model best practice, and remain current with developments in clinical care.
