Overview
We are seeking an experienced Clerk of Works /Site Quality Inspector to join a multidisciplinary team overseeing construction and refurbishment projects in a live hospital environment.
This role acts as the client’s representative on site — ensuring all works are delivered to specification, comply with regulations, and meet the required quality standards at handover.
This is a 12-month contract initially, with the potential to extend.
Key Responsibilities
Site Quality & Compliance

Monitor all construction activities to ensure works are carried out in accordance with drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Inspect workmanship and materials, identifying and recording any defects or non-compliance.

Ensure full compliance with fire safety systems (passive and active).

Maintain detailed site records, diaries, and progress reports.
Mechanical & Electrical Oversight

Oversee installation of M&E systems including:

HVAC
-
Plumbing
-
Fire protection systems
-
Power distribution & lighting
-
Containment and wiring systems
-

Review technical drawings and identify clashes before installation.

Witness testing and commissioning of systems.
-
Assist with compilation of handover and “as-built” documentation.
Project Coordination

Liaise with Project Managers, Design Team, Contractors and Maintenance teams.

Attend site meetings and design meetings.

Accompany Local Authority inspectors during site visits.

Report on contractor progress and highlight risks or potential claims issues.
What This Role Is Not

No authority to change designs
-
No authority to approve variations or additional costs

No direct control over contractor methods
This is a monitoring and reporting role, ensuring quality and compliance.
Requirements

Recognised apprenticeship in a building or construction trade.

Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience on complex construction projects.

Strong understanding of construction contracts and site documentation.

Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.

Experience in M&E works (highly desirable).

Strong report writing and record-keeping skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Experience in healthcare or live environments would be advantageous.
