Automation Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to design, implement, optimise and maintain automated systems within a manufacturing environment, helping to improve efficiency, quality and safety.
You will work closely with project teams to deliver automation solutions as part of site improvement initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities;
- Lead the development and delivery of automation solutions that drive measurable improvements in manufacturing performance
- Integrate cutting-edge automation technologies into both new and existing production systems
- Take ownership of automation elements across site projects, ensuring delivery on time and within budget
- Program and commission PLCs, HMIs and control systems to a high standard
- Proactively identify and resolve automation issues, minimising downtime and production impact
- Drive machine optimisation and energy efficiency through smart automation strategies
- Champion safety by conducting risk assessments and implementing robust control measures
- Select and evaluate automation technologies to maximise performance and cost-effectiveness
- Manage external contractors, ensuring high-quality delivery and strict adherence to health and safety standards
- Produce clear, accurate and structured technical documentation
- Upskill site teams by providing hands-on training and technical expertise
- Play a key role in continuous improvement, innovation and best practice adoption across the site
- Support commissioning, start-up and successful handover of automation systems
- Travel as required to support project execution and collaboration with partners
Ideal Candidate;
- Degree-qualified in Automation, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or similar (or equivalent hands-on apprenticeship background)
- Brings 5+ years of proven automation engineering experience, ideally within a high-volume manufacturing setting
- Strong technical expert in PLC programming, SCADA systems and industrial networks
- Commercially aware problem-solver who takes ownership and delivers practical solutions
- Experience or exposure to robotics, vision systems or advanced automation technologies is a distinct advantage
