The company plays a pivotal role in supporting our aim to achieve it's mission of providing leadership and support to achieving a sustainable food system.

Our Applications suite consists of over 35 business systems with a mixture of bespoke, package and SaaS applications. The systems are housed between on-premises and the cloud. The systems vary from client facing applications such as Profit Monitor, Pasturebase and Nutrient Management Planner to administration systems such as Finance and HR systems. We engage external vendors to supply many of its ICT services, including application development.

The ICT Department has 24 staff members organised into six units - Applications, Infrastructure, Service Delivery, Security/Continuity, Development and Research and Innovation. Testing policies and procedures are currently managed within each team and project. There is no test automation currently in place.

The company is now looking to appoint an ICT Test Engineer to join the Applications team within the ICT Department in order to introduce test automation. This position provides an exciting opportunity to join the ICT department as Teagasc embarks on a new Digitalisation Transformation Strategy aimed at delivering transformative change in a number of areas across the organisation, and involving increasing use of cloud technologies. The ideal applicant will have:

  • A QQI Level 8 Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other relevant qualification at this level.
  • At least two years' experience of testing ICT systems using structured approaches to testing including test preparation and execution and defect management
  • Knowledge and understanding of testing strategy, planning and approaches
  • Experience of using test automation tools
  • Ability to write/learn to write automation scripts
  • Experience in setting up and developing automation frame work


This position requires occasional attendance outside normal working hours and some travel between company offices.

Location and Home Working:

While this role is based in Oak Park, Carlow other locations may be considered at the discretion of management and subject to office space availability.

The company is currently piloting a home working policy which allows up to 2 days per week home working.
