Are you an effective Senior Mental Health Social Worker with strong leadership skills? Are you looking to work part time within a Psychiatric Hospital in South Dublin?

My client is renowned to be One of the Leading European Providers in Mental Health treatment and care. This Hospital holds a certificate of registration with the Mental Health Commission as an Approved Centre in compliance with the new Mental Health Act 2001 and is also accredited by CHKS.

This is a part time role (18.5 hrs per week), a fixed term contract for a number of months until March/April 2021.

Summary: To provide a mental health social work service within a multidisciplinary team in the general adult psychiatry inpatient service.

The position of a Senior Mental Health Social Worker involves assessing the psycho-social needs of patients in the context of their family and social environment. An important focus of this work involves addressing relevant issues and exploring options to enhance personal and family growth. An inherent tenet is the recognition of the rights and dignity of every individual. This work takes place within the context of a multidisciplinary team. This position offers the opportunity to provide social work services within the context of general adult psychiatry

The Salary Scale for the post is depending on experience: €60,123 - €61,837 - €63,552 - €65,267 - €66,981 - €68,695 - €69,351

The Senior Mental Health Social Worker will:

  • Provide a comprehensive recovery orientated social work service to the attending adult patient population, family and supporters.
  • The social worker will conduct holistic social assessments of the needs of adults experiencing moderate to severe mental health problems, with an emphasis on family work. Interventions will be co-created with the patient to meet those needs.
  • Provide supportive counselling interventions, emotional and practical support to adults with mental health problems, as well as in relation to their partner/supporter/family, and with the broader family system.
  • Provide family focused work in the model of behavioural family therapy (BFT) in areas where there are complex dynamics.
  • Develop and facilitate information and therapeutic groups with patients and their families/carers.
  • Promote the right to self-determination, independence, dignity and empowerment to adult patients seeking support from the social work service.
  • Build collaborative interagency working relationships with the relevant statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Ensure the risks to patient's safety and their families are identified and managed appropriately in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Chair, attend and manage meetings as required
  • Ensure the delivery of social work services are in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures, guidelines and protocols.
  • Advocate for the promotion of the social model of care and recognition of the social determinants of health and well-being.
  • Incorporate Social Work values and ethical principles in planning, developing, implementing and reviewing interventions

Candidates must:

  • A recognised qualification as a Social Worker
  • Registration with CORU essential
  • Have three years post qualification experience working with service users/patients with mental health difficulties and their families/supporters
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, initiative, teamwork and time management skills
  • Demonstrate knowledge, experience and competency in working in a therapeutic context with service users, and their families.
  • Must knowledge of recovery orientated practice to enable service users to take greater control over decisions and actions that affect their health, wellbeing and recovery.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership skills.
  • Available to start work as soon as possible
