Health and Safety Officer

Job Overview

Our Clients in Cavan have a position for a Health & Safety Officer reporting to the H&S Manager to join their progressive team. The main function of this role is to co-ordinate, support and advise the business on all aspects with regards to Health and Safety. To establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training, and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety within Abcon are adhered to


Duties & Responsibilities
* Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated
* Ensure the company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health and safety and welfare at work, including statutory and training
* Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations
* Carry out accident, incident investigations and root cause analysis studies
* Ensure that safety inspections, risk assessments and fire drills are carried out
* Ensure that training records are maintained and kept up to date
* Establish a full programme of documented health and safety inspections, audits, and checks
* Establish a structured programme of health and safety training throughout the company
* Conduct regular toolbox talks
* Liaise with external health and safety consultants in the provision of training programmes
* Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety and welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business
* Provide regular reports and statistics to the H&S Manager and Senior management team on relevant health and safety matters
* Identify potential hazards and determining ways of reducing risks
* Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time


Qualifications & Skills
* Third level education in Health & Safety or related discipline is required
* 3-5 years' experience working in a Health & Safety role
* Professional approach, coupled with strong interpersonal skills
* Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
* Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
* Proficient in Microsoft office (word, excel etc)
* Experience in leading and carrying out Risk Assessments & method statements
* Ability to deliver training modules to all levels of the organisation
* Highly motivated with excellent attention to professional Health & Safety standards
* Ability to work in a team environment and can engage, motivate, and work with people
