Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor
Job Overview
My client is currently recruiting for a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor to join their busy food manufacturing company based in Co. Kildare.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that product and food safety specifications are met by verifying the production and system checks and documentation, and supporting operations in decision-making in the day-to-day production of conforming product.
- Carry out the following quality checks in line with the FSQMS:
- raw material and receiving checks.
- CCP verification.
- traceability checks as directed and within allocated timeframes.
- Keep alert for and highlight hazards, and always act to prevent any risks to product safety
- Conduct traceability exercises as required.
- Instigate non-conformance reports and drive investigation and corrective action when deviations are detected.
- Routine and project-based validation of production and pre-requisite processes
- Work with production management, QA, S&I, purchasing and other departments in setting standards, solving problems, and taking corrective action.
- Hygiene inspection audits and environmental monitoring.
- GMP audits as per audit schedule.
- Training for production teams and other staff in SOPs, Hygiene, Technical Policies and Procedures etc.
- Conduct environmental swabbing as required.
- Collection and logging of product samples for testing.
- Review and collation of results to ensure compliance, and communication of any non-conforming results or trends to relevant personnel.
- Provide regular quality performance reports to assist production management, QA management, purchasing etc. in addressing and eliminating non-conformances.
- Produce other reports as required e.g. risk assessments, analyses, investigations, KPIs, trending etc.
- Ensure that high standards are maintained with respect to procedures, reports and documentation control. Filing and archiving of quality records.
- Supporting requests from other departments e.g. Stock Releases, Stock Enquiries, POs etc
- Control of non-conforming product, including placing on hold, review and release as appropriate.
- Control and calibration of measuring devices e.g. probes, data loggers etc.
- Liaising with specialist contractors and service providers e.g. Pest Control, Calibration, Audit and Certification Bodies.
- Assisting with customer, regulatory and supplier visits and audits, including ensuring appropriate PPE is in place.
- Recording daily QA / Technical meeting minutes and following up on issues raised.
- Provide support to the Technical Department and/or Customers as required (e.g. Customer Queries, Customer Complaints, Cutting Sessions, Customer Specifications, Dry Ingredients, Legislative Queries, Supplier Audits etc.).
Experience and qualifications required
- Degree or Higher Level in a Scientific Food Discipline.
- 1 - 2 years hands-on experience in driving compliance, quality and food safety, and day-to-day technical trouble-shooting in a fast-paced production environment.
- Experience in operating and continuously improving quality systems.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of food safety & quality standards e.g. BRC, Regulatory and Retailer Standards.
- Experience in working with customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies and audits desirable.
- Attention to detail in observation and record keeping.
- Strong team working and influencing skills, and assertive as necessary.
- Excellent communication skills both written & verbal.
- Ability to use own initiative, and to be able to work under pressure.
- Hands on, pro-active approach.
