The role of the Emergency Department Consultant in a public teaching hospital is varied and challenging, as you will provide senior clinical leadership to the ED. This will consist of providing direct clinical care to individual patients, the supervision and support of doctors in training in EM and other specialities and a close working relationship with Departmental and Hospital management teams to ensure safe systems and processes are in place for all patients attending with emergent and urgent conditions. The consultant's position is both clinical and managerial. The clinical role is diagnostic, investigative, treatment and prescription, either directly or through others but involving continuing full responsibility for the treatment of patients without supervision in clinical matters. The ED Consultant also manages services and human resources in the ED department. Consultants will contribute to the training, education and supervision of non-consultant hospital doctors, undergraduate students and a range of clinical staff.
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria
- Hold Specialist division registration with the Irish Medical Council
- Currently working as Consultant with 10 Plus Years of Clinical Experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent English language skills - IELTS or OET if applicable
