Agri Advisor - North Cork

Job Overview

FRS Recruitment is currently inviting applications for the role of Agri Advisor (Sustainability) on behalf of a leading Irish Agri organisation. Ideally you will be from the North Cork or surrounding regions (counties) to best service farmers throughout the regions.

N.B. Candidates must come from a strong Agri Background, with an Agri Degree with an interest in Agri Sustainability. You must also have 1 - 2 years min experience in an Agri Advisory role dealing direct with farmers to be considered.

The Role

The Agri Advisor will be responsible for the Increased awareness across our farm supplier base regarding the connection between on farm practices and watercourse quality to drive a difference and advise farmers in priority areas regarding targeted use of slurry and fertilizer to improve nutrient management on the farm. The successful candidate will also advise on new approaches to land management to reduce nutrient losses in critical source areas and drive better farmyard management and practices to ensure separation, containment and management of contaminants, including dirty water. This person will be responsible for managing these processes operationally & implementing the identified strategies for the area within the Supply Chain farm to factory function.

Core responsibilities for this role include:

  • As the Agri. Sustainability Advisor, you will be required to stay up to date on all new technologies, projects, policy changes and otherwise agri. sustainability related sources.
  • The person will aid in the development and ultimate realization of the company's Sustainability goals and Agenda working with a variety of stakeholders within the org and with third parties.
  • The successful candidate will be required to communicate our client's Sustainability agenda primarily to suppliers but also to customers and buyers through a variety of different medias and methods including spoken and written medias.
  • You will be required to help to organize and participate in farm walks, webinars, educational videos and likely a variety of other communication types, catering to a range of audiences.
  • A familiarity and understanding of dairy farming and the dairy industry are essential for this role
  • As the Agri. Sustainability Advisor, you will be required to work with third party organizations on a variety of projects
  • You must have the ability to both works well in team situations as well as on your own and be able to manage your own work schedule, prioritizing the most immediate workloads and also timetable and achieve, longer-term work requirements and goals

Requirements of the role:

  • Third level qualification in the field of science or other relevant area
  • Skills and knowledge to assess the requirements to improve and protect water quality at individual farm level
  • Completion of on farm inspections on their own
  • Produce a farm assessment report for each farm visit outlining and reiterating the advice provided during the farm visit
  • Develop a plan, in conjunction with the farmer, which will allow actions to be completed in a realistic and cost-effective way
  • Effectively, influence suppliers of the need to take actions
  • Achieve realistic targets relating to farm visits as agreed upon with their manager
  • Liaise with the LAWPRO advisor responsible for the Priority Area for Action (PAA) in which the farm visit is taking place to ensure knowledge of referrals associated with the PAA.
  • Participate in ASSAP/LAWPRO meetings and fully support any initiatives such as 'Water Quality Week', completing information articles/ create video content etc as required.
  • Participate in training and up-skilling and provide support at water quality related events, discussion group meetings, streamside events etc.
