Speech and Language Therapist – Adults (Complex Needs)

Location: Multiple
Contract: Full-Time or Part-Time | Permanent

Overview:
This role offers a qualified Speech and Language Therapist the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team, supporting adults with complex needs including intellectual disabilities, autism, acquired brain injury (ABI), and/or mental health conditions. The therapist will provide assessment, therapy, and communication-focused interventions that promote independence and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of adults with complex communication and/or swallowing needs

  • Deliver evidence-based assessments and interventions

  • Provide individual and group therapy, as appropriate

  • Collaborate with MDT colleagues and contribute to care planning

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

  • Support service development and participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives

  • Offer informal supervision or mentoring to junior staff or students

  • Participate in CPD activities and maintain professional registration

Essential Requirements:

  • Recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy

  • Current CORU registration (or in process if newly qualified)

  • Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience working with adults with ID, ASD, ABI, or complex needs

  • Experience in communication assessment and intervention

  • Knowledge of dysphagia assessment and management (with post-grad training if applicable)

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Full driving licence and access to own transport

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with AAC systems and communication supports (e.g. LÁMH, PECS)

  • Postgraduate training in adult dysphagia

  • Involvement in service development or clinical audit

  • Supporting behaviours of concern as part of a multidisciplinary plan

  • Use of outcome measures to track clinical progress

  • Experience supervising students or junior staff
