Speech and Language Therapist – Adults (Complex Needs)

Overview:
This role offers a qualified Speech and Language Therapist the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team, supporting adults with complex needs including intellectual disabilities, autism, acquired brain injury (ABI), and/or mental health conditions. The therapist will provide assessment, therapy, and communication-focused interventions that promote independence and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage a caseload of adults with complex communication and/or swallowing needs

Deliver evidence-based assessments and interventions

Provide individual and group therapy, as appropriate

Collaborate with MDT colleagues and contribute to care planning

Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

Support service development and participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives

Offer informal supervision or mentoring to junior staff or students

Participate in CPD activities and maintain professional registration
Essential Requirements:

Recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
-
Current CORU registration (or in process if newly qualified)

Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience working with adults with ID, ASD, ABI, or complex needs

Experience in communication assessment and intervention

Knowledge of dysphagia assessment and management (with post-grad training if applicable)

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Full driving licence and access to own transport
Desirable Skills/Experience:

Experience with AAC systems and communication supports (e.g. LÁMH, PECS)

Postgraduate training in adult dysphagia

Involvement in service development or clinical audit

Supporting behaviours of concern as part of a multidisciplinary plan

Use of outcome measures to track clinical progress

Experience supervising students or junior staff
