Senior Occupational Therapist – Assessment of Need (AON)

FRS are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join a Primary Care Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing Assessments of Need (AON) for children, working collaboratively with families, multidisciplinary colleagues, and wider Primary Care teams.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a Senior OT with strong paediatric experience who is committed to providing high-quality, child-centred assessment and contributing to timely service delivery within the AON process.

Location: Mayo

Part time - 2 day a week

Hourly rate based off HSE salary scale

6 month initial contract

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive Assessments of Need for children referred under the Disability Act.
  • Undertake detailed occupational therapy assessments, including functional, sensory, developmental, and environmental evaluations.
  • Prepare clear, timely, and evidence-based AON reports in line with national standards and statutory requirements.
  • Liaise and collaborate with parents/guardians, caregivers, schools etc to gather information, as appropriate, to support holistic assessment.
  • Contribute to decision-making regarding service needs and recommendations for children.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with professional guidelines and organisational policies.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and continuing professional development activities.
  • Provide support, guidance, and mentorship to junior staff or students as required.

Essential Requirements

  • CORU Registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, including relevant experience in paediatric occupational therapy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development, sensory processing, functional assessment, and family-centred practice.
  • Excellent communication, report-writing, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Prior experience completing AON assessments.
  • Experience working within Primary Care or disability services.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, including the Disability Act and Children First guidelines.
