Production and Operations Manager
I am delighted to be assisting my client, an established and highly innovative sports manufacturing business in recruiting an experienced Production and Operations Manager to lead and optimise all manufacturing and operational activities.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role with full responsibility for production performance, process engineering and people management within the production team. Working closely with the Managing Director, you will play a key role in shaping long-term strategy while driving operational excellence on the ground.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily production operations to achieve delivery, quality, and cost targets
- Develop and execute production schedules, capacity plans, and resource allocation
- Analyse performance metrics such as scrap and downtime to drive continuous improvement
- Oversee CNC machining operations including programming, tooling strategy, and machine optimisation
- Lead process engineering activities, workflow optimisation, and SOP development
- Drive Lean manufacturing initiatives including 5S, Kaizen, VSM, SMED, and visual management
- Support Industry 4.0 initiatives, including robotics and automation integration
- Oversee stock control across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
- Ensure warehousing and dispatch operations run efficiently and accurately
- Ensure full compliance with safety, quality, regulatory, and insurance standards
- Lead, coach, and develop production teams, including performance reviews
- Manage all HR-related matters within the team including recruitment, training, attendance, and disciplinary processes
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or similar
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in production or operations management, ideally in CNC or high-tech manufacturing
- Strong hands-on CNC machining and programming experience
- Proven ability to solve complex technical and operational problems using data-driven approaches
- Experience delivering Lean transformation and continuous improvement programmes
- Exposure to robotics, automation, and smart manufacturing initiatives
- Strong ERP, CAD/CAM, and data analysis skills
- Confident people manager with strong HR and compliance knowledge
- Excellent organisational, communication, and decision-making skills
