We are currently recruiting for an Optical Assistant to join a dynamic and growing Primary Care Eye Team (PCET) in Roscommon.
You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team including a Consultant Ophthalmologist, Clinical Optometrists, an Orthoptist, an Ophthalmic Nurse, and another Ophthalmic Technician. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in eye care and a passion for delivering high-quality patient support.
Key Responsibilities Include:

Assisting the clinical team with patient care

Conducting preliminary examinations (e.g., visual acuity, autorefraction, eye pressure)

Instilling prescribed eye drops

Supporting patients with limited mobility during assessments

Performing tests such as visual field exams, ocular imaging, lensometry, and biometry

Maintaining clinical rooms and sterilising equipment

Recording test results in patient charts

Liaising with IT teams regarding clinical photography systems and data

Ordering ophthalmic supplies and supporting clinic logistics

Ensuring clinics run efficiently and remain on schedule

Participating in ongoing training and upholding health and safety standards

Requirements:

FETAC Level 5 in Healthcare (all 8 modules completed) or a relevant healthcare qualification

Experience working as an Optical Assistant

Eligibility to work in Ireland

Experience in an eye care clinic or community optometry practice

Full driving licence and access to transport (travel to Ballinasloe or Boyne required)
