FRS Recruitment are now inviting applications for the role of Laboratory Operative on behalf of our client, a leading organisation in the PowerGen sector, based in Edenderry, Co. Offaly. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual with a chemistry/engineering background to join a dynamic, accredited laboratory environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Laboratory Operative will be responsible for the organisation, categorisation, and analysis of fuel and water samples, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards and supporting the Environmental Management System on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out fuel analysis to ensure compliance with commercial and technical standards

  • Conduct water and effluent analysis to support the plant’s Environmental Management System

  • Assist in the control of steam and water chemistry on the plant

  • Participate in Environmental, Health & Safety and Energy Efficiency activities, including audits and risk assessments

  • Liaise with regulatory and accreditation bodies (EPA, NSAI, INAB) as required

  • Maintain accurate records in line with ISO 17025 and laboratory quality standards

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and additional project work in Fuel Management and Environmental Compliance

Candidate Profile, Skills & Competencies

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a fuel, water, or environmental laboratory (accredited environment desirable)

  • Technical qualifications in Chemistry or Engineering (C&G, HNC, HND or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 standard essential

  • Experience with fuel analysis, steam plant water analysis, effluent analysis

  • Familiarity with EPA licensing advantageous

  • Strong understanding of health & safety; Safepass certification desirable

  • Strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Good communication and reporting skills

  • Commitment to quality, compliance, and safety standards
