My client, a leading Irish Retailer, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Purchasing to lead their procurement function at their busy head office in Ashbourne, Co. Meath.

This is an exciting senior-level opportunity to take ownership of the company’s purchasing strategy, drive supplier performance, and deliver commercial value in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the purchasing team, ensuring best-in-class procurement practices across all categories.

  • Define and deliver the overall purchasing strategy in line with company objectives, ensuring cost efficiency, availability, and quality.

  • Negotiate and manage high-level supplier contracts and strategic partnerships, fostering long-term collaborative relationships.

  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers, driving innovation and competitiveness.

  • Oversee demand planning and stock forecasting, ensuring availability while optimising working capital.

  • Work closely with merchandising, operations, and finance teams to align purchasing decisions with sales targets, promotional activity, and margin objectives.

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer insights to anticipate product and supply needs.

  • Lead on supplier performance management, KPIs, and risk mitigation.

  • Manage department budgets, reporting directly to senior leadership on performance and opportunities.

  • Champion continuous improvement, implementing systems and processes that enhance efficiency and profitability.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years’ procurement experience, with at least 2 years in a management/leadership role.

  • Strong track record in supplier negotiation, contract management, and strategic sourcing.

  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.

  • Commercially astute, with strong analytical and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment, balancing strategic focus with hands-on delivery.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and advanced Excel.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
