Fleet Manager (Technical and Compliance Fleet Manager)

A leading national organisation is seeking an experienced Fleet Technical and Compliance Manager to oversee a Middle Mile HGV fleet of more than 300 vehicles. This role suits a technical fleet professional with a strong mechanical or trade background and proven experience managing large HGV operations.
You will be responsible for ensuring full compliance, optimising fleet utilisation, and driving best practice across maintenance, safety, reporting, and supplier management. The position requires strong technical knowledge of HGVs, the confidence to challenge warranty decisions, and the capability to act as the main point of contact for RSA engagement and compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities

Lead safety, compliance, and driver standards across a nationwide HGV fleet.

Oversee maintenance schedules, CVRT, inspections, and technical performance.

Manage fleet telemetry, tachograph reporting, KPIs, and utilisation analysis.

Coordinate with suppliers on repairs, contracts, and service quality.

Support routing, scheduling, and operational improvements across the network.

Lead a dispersed team and coach staff to deliver high standards.

Manage budgets and contribute to future fleet design and specification.
Requirements

At least 7 years' experience managing a large HGV fleet.

Trade or mechanic background with strong technical understanding of HGV issues.

Transport Manager CPC required. C and CE licence highly preferred.

Strong data capability and comfort with new technologies.

Excellent communication, leadership, and decision making skills.

Flexibility to travel weekly to other sites with expenses covered.
