Position Title: Staff Nurse – Endoscopy

Reports to: Clinical Nurse Manager or Deputy

Purpose of the Role

The Staff Nurse will work collaboratively with the nursing team to deliver excellence in patient care through a well-educated and highly motivated team and the effective use of available resources. This role is guided by the Hospital’s Mission, Values, and Ethos.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Practice in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, legal requirements, and professional standards as outlined by the Nursing Department and the NMBI.

  • Provide safe, effective, and efficient nursing care by:
    i) Planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care from admission through discharge.
    ii) Completing nursing assessments, care plans, and all relevant documentation.

  • Communicate effectively with nursing, medical, and multidisciplinary staff by reporting patient care information both verbally and in writing.

  • Conduct all handovers, reports, and escalations using the approved ISBAR handover tool.

  • Liaise and cooperate with other departments as required, demonstrating professionalism and effective interpersonal skills.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient documentation in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, using only approved abbreviations.

  • Adhere strictly to the hospital’s medication policy, ensuring proper safekeeping and recording of controlled drugs at all times.

  • Perform IV cannulation in line with hospital policy.

  • Demonstrate a professional, courteous, and caring attitude towards patients, families, colleagues, and all service users, in keeping with the Hospital’s values.

  • Respond promptly and calmly in emergency situations.

  • Provide care with minimal supervision and take charge of the department in the absence of the CNM, exercising sound judgment and decision-making regarding patient care and referring appropriately to CNMs, medical staff, or other disciplines.

  • Follow the appropriate line of authority by discussing issues with the CNM in the first instance.

  • Take responsibility for stock management, ensuring adequate supplies are maintained within the department.

  • Support and mentor student nurses, new staff members, and healthcare assistants.

  • Contribute to nursing best practices by identifying recurring clinical issues and implementing evidence-based solutions.

  • Participate and cooperate in initiatives related to hospital accreditation, including assistance with data collection.

  • Deputise for the CNM as required, assisting with staff workload planning and delegation in line with departmental needs.

  • Report and document all adverse events or issues concerning patients or staff to the CNM/Director of Nursing, ensuring full details are recorded in accordance with hospital policy and logged on Q-Pulse.

  • Participate in the Hospital’s Performance Review and Development process.

  • Monitor and report issues that:
    i) Fall below acceptable standards, or
    ii) May affect the efficient operation or reputation of the Hospital, taking corrective action in collaboration with the CNM.

  • Maintain up-to-date education records and actively engage in continuous professional development.

  • Ensure the efficient and responsible use of all resources.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Nurse Manager.
