Role Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Respiratory Integrated Care will provide expert and specialist nursing services to patients with respiratory conditions in both hospital outpatient settings and primary care. The post holder will act as a key liaison between acute respiratory services and integrated community respiratory services, collaborating with other healthcare agencies to ensure the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care.
The CNS will utilize resources efficiently to achieve the best patient outcomes in line with the National Clinical Programme (NCP) Respiratory Programme models of care and HIQA standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver specialist respiratory nursing care across hospital and community settings.

Coordinate and liaise between acute and integrated community respiratory services.

Support patients with chronic respiratory conditions, promoting self-management and health education.

Contribute to service development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols.

Ensure nursing care is evidence-based and meets NCP Respiratory Programme standards.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation in line with professional and organizational standards.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits.

Provide education, mentorship, and support to patients, families, and staff.
Requirements:
Essential:
-
Full Irish driving license and access to a car (as the post requires travel).

Current registration as a nurse on the Active Register of Nurses held by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or eligibility for registration.

Registration in the General Division of the register of nurses in which the application is being made.

Completion of a post-registration programme of study in the relevant specialist area, verified by the education provider, equivalent to QQI NFQ Level 8 or higher, or written evidence from a Higher Education Institute of equivalent ECTS credits.

Minimum of 5 years post-registration full-time experience in the General Division.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in specialist Respiratory Nursing and/or Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR), working with patients with chronic respiratory disease.

Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
Desirable:

Experience in integrated care models and collaboration across healthcare settings.

Knowledge of NCP Respiratory Programme standards and HIQA guidelines.

Leadership, mentorship, and clinical education experience.
