What Does This Role Entail?
Clinical Practice
-
Deliver the highest standards of nursing and social care to meet the individual needs of each resident.

Ensure nursing home policies and best clinical standards are consistently applied.

Collaborate with staff in all areas to maintain standards; identify concerns and work with the Director of Nursing on action plans.

Review residents with pressure sores, falls, or clinical deterioration to ensure appropriate management plans are in place.
-
Troubleshoot ongoing clinical and non-clinical issues, escalating to the Director of Nursing where necessary.

Carry out comprehensive resident assessments and update care plans as needed.
Medication Management
-
Supervise medication administration and compliance among nursing staff.
-
Order and maintain monthly stock and inventory.
-
Review medication audits with the Director of Nursing and implement improvements.
-
Liaise with GPs and pharmacies regarding medication reviews and audits.
Staff Supervision & Training
-
Work alongside and maintain a visible presence with Staff Nurses and Care Assistants.
-
Support Training & Development and Performance Appraisals for nursing and care staff, in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
-
Ensure Care Assistants maintain a professional, caring approach and provide high standards of direct care.
-
Implement and monitor the effectiveness of the Named Nurse and Named Care Assistant system.

Identify training needs with the Director of Nursing and deliver in-house training (e.g., infection control, palliative care, understanding challenging behaviour).
Auditing
-
Review new admissions to ensure appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.

Observe practice, monitor cleanliness and hygiene standards, and encourage good communication between Staff Nurses, Care Assistants, and housekeeping staff.

Ensure environmental and hand hygiene audits are regularly and thoroughly carried out, with sustained action plans.

Conduct medication, health & safety, and risk management audits, creating and maintaining risk management plans with the Director of Nursing.

Audit documentation systems (e.g., Epicare), addressing any issues with nursing and care staff.
Residents and Relatives – Person-Centred Care
-
Interact daily with residents and families, acting as a key point of contact and ambassador for the nursing home.

Handle complaints promptly and effectively at the point of contact.
Management
-
Support the Director of Nursing and cover their responsibilities during annual leave.
-
Manage daily operations, including rosters, handovers, and resident progress reviews.
-
Promote and develop clinical practice through a hands-on approach with staff in the delivery of care.
-
Implement the organisation’s Health and Safety Policy to ensure the safety and welfare of staff, residents, and visitors.
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes
-
BSc in General Nursing or equivalent.
-
Previous managerial training or experience is an advantage.
-
Registered on the NMBI live register.
-
Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
-
Sound decision-making ability.
-
Self-motivated, with the ability to inspire and work on one’s own initiative.
-
Team-focused with a results-driven approach.
-
