Overall Purpose of the Role

The Staff Nurse in the Cardiology and Acute Medical Ward plays a critical role in delivering high-quality nursing care. This includes the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for a diverse cohort of patients, including those with cardiology, cardiothoracic, respiratory, and acute medical needs—many admitted via the Emergency Department.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Patient Care:

Deliver direct care to assigned patients

Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and formulate care plans

Monitor and document vital signs, symptoms, and patient behaviours
-
Initiate and revise individualized care plans in accordance with patient needs
-

Clinical Duties:
-
Carry out admission, discharge, and transfer procedures
-
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
-
Alert appropriate staff to changes in patient condition
-
Apply and maintain aseptic techniques, infection control, and isolation procedures
-

Documentation & Confidentiality:

Accurately document all aspects of nursing care

Uphold patient confidentiality at all times

Evaluation & Education:

Reassess patient care and revise plans accordingly

Educate patients and families regarding treatment and care plans

Record and evaluate teaching and instruction outcomes

Clinical Responsibilities

Act as deputy for the Nurse Manager when required

Educational Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, the Staff Nurse will:

Develop teaching skills and support student nurse orientation and education

Provide feedback for student proficiency assessments

Identify and contribute to staff training needs

Support learning and development opportunities for all staff

Assist with clinical induction of new staff

Act as a role model through leadership and professionalism

Take ownership of personal professional development

Person Specification
Qualifications:
-
Registered General Nurse with NMBI (in good standing)
Experience:
-
Previous experience in acute medical or cardiology settings is preferred

Relevant experience in acute medical care

Interest in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, or Acute Medical Nursing
