About the Role
As a key member of the purchasing function, the Buyer will manage material planning and purchasing activities to support on-time delivery and ensure optimal inventory performance. Working closely with suppliers, production, customer service, and warehouse teams, the Buyer will play an essential role in helping the plant meet its delivery and operational targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full material supply chain lifecycle including planning, procurement, pricing, inventory, and freight.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date ERP/MRP systems including purchase orders, delivery dates, lead times, and safety stock levels.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships and service level agreements.
- Ensure best value through total landed cost management for raw materials.
- Coordinate inbound/outbound freight and collaborate with 3PL and logistics partners.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels, identifying slow-moving stock and implementing reduction plans.
- Provide insight and support for budgeting, month-end accounts, and forecasting.
- Communicate proactively with internal stakeholders on planning or supply chain issues.
- Champion lean supply principles including JIT and Kanban.
- Support ISO 9001 processes and assist new product development teams during transitions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Third-level qualification in Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
- APICS or equivalent certification.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a purchasing role within a manufacturing environment.
- Deep understanding of ERP/MRP systems (ideally JDE and iPlanner).
- Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Experience with inbound freight and strict inventory targets.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively across teams and departments.
- Comfort working in an environment with evolving priorities and challenges.
