Clinical Nurse Specialist / Advanced Practice Pathway – Intellectual Disability (Autism & Behaviour Support)

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse in Intellectual Disability (RNID) to join a specialist multidisciplinary team providing high-quality, person-centred supports to individuals with intellectual disabilities and complex needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of specialist Autism and Behaviour Support services in line with national frameworks and best practice standards.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver evidence-based specialist nursing interventions in Autism and Behaviour Support within Intellectual Disability services.

Work collaboratively as part of the Positive Behaviour Support team to enhance service delivery in line with organisational strategic objectives.

Provide clinical leadership, assessment, intervention planning, and evaluation to promote optimal outcomes for service users.

Contribute to service development, staff education, and quality improvement initiatives.

Engage in clinical supervision and continuous professional development to maintain advanced clinical competence.
Essential Criteria
-
Registered Nurse Intellectual Disability (RNID) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or eligibility for registration.

Broad clinical experience relevant to Intellectual Disability, Autism, and Behaviour Support.

Eligible to undertake, currently undertaking, or hold a Master’s Degree (Level 9 NFQ) in Nursing or a related field relevant to Intellectual Disability: Autism/Behaviour Support.

The programme must include a minimum of three modular components related to advanced practice and a clinical practicum.

Demonstrated capacity to complete a minimum of 500 hours of supervised advanced clinical practice.

Be, or be willing to become within two years, a Registered Nurse Prescriber in line with a Collaborative Practice Agreement (CPA).

Proven ability to practice safely and effectively within scope of practice and commitment to ongoing professional development.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, teamwork, and caseload management skills.

Strong commitment to person-centred practice, community inclusion, and the rights of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Full driving licence and access to own transport.
